Denise Mattar

A leading art curator in Brazil — the signature that turns a lobby into a collection.

Who she is

Denise Mattar (São Paulo, 1948) is one of Brazil’s most respected visual arts curators. She was curator at the Museu da Casa Brasileira (1985–87), MAM-SP (1987–89) and MAM-Rio (1990–97). As an independent curator, she organised landmark retrospectives of Di Cavalcanti, Flávio de Carvalho, Ismael Nery, Anita Malfatti, Pancetti and Frans Krajcberg, among others, earning APCA and ABCA awards. Caveat: she is not, strictly speaking, an interior decorator/designer, but an art curator — filed here under the closest available type (Decorator) for her work curating art/ambience in developments.
