AngloGold Ashanti
The gold miner of Nova Lima that, by holding onto its land for more than a century, made possible the planned neighbourhood of Vale dos Cristais.
Who it is
AngloGold Ashanti is a global gold-mining company, with a historic operation in Minas Gerais around the Morro Velho mine, in Nova Lima — one of the oldest continuously operating mines in the country. It is this century-long presence that explains its entry into the Minas Gerais real estate market: much of the municipality’s territory remained in the company’s hands for more than a hundred years, unsubdivided and unoccupied.
In Vale dos Cristais, AngloGold enters as landowner and development partner, responsible for preserving the area, alongside OR in the development. The company maintains a preservation area and an environmental education centre open to the community in Nova Lima.
Product vision
- Positioning: not a market developer. It enters as a landholding owner and environmental partner in planned-neighbourhood projects.
- Differentiators: the asset it brings to the partnership is precisely the scarcest one in the Belo Horizonte metropolitan region — a continuous tract of preserved forest, just minutes from downtown.
Launches
- Vale dos Cristais, in Nova Lima, in partnership with OR.
