The neighbourhood’s story
Nova Lima is not a neighbourhood: it is a municipality in the Belo Horizonte metropolitan region, bordering the capital to the south, and it is now home to the top of the Minas Gerais property market. The explanation lies underground. The city grew up around the Morro Velho mine, one of the oldest continuously operating mines in the country, and because of it much of its territory remained for over a century in the hands of a single owner — the mining company —, without subdivision, occupation or roads.
When that land holding began to be converted into planned neighbourhoods, the region started offering something Belo Horizonte no longer had: continuous tracts of forest, with mountain topography and views, just minutes from the financial centre. The MG-030, the motorway linking the capital to Nova Lima, is the axis of this transformation, and along it sit the condominiums that concentrate the top end of the Minas Gerais market — among them Vale dos Cristais, built by OR in partnership with AngloGold Ashanti, the owner of the land.
Scarcity here is of a different nature: not environmental, but related to land holding. The stock of large, continuous tracts between Savassi and Nova Lima is finite and almost entirely spoken for.

- Clubs: the community centres and clubs of the planned condominiums along the MG-030 themselves, plus the traditional clubs of Belo Horizonte, a few minutes away.
- Schools: the reference schools of the Minas capital are a short distance away along the MG-030 axis, in addition to units installed in Nova Lima itself.
- Dining and lifestyle: the BH Shopping and the commercial axis of the MG-030 concentrate day-to-day convenience; fine dining remains in the Savassi and Lourdes areas.
- Parks: the Atlantic Forest and the rocky-field highlands of the mountains, the conservation areas maintained by the mining company, and the trails within the condominiums themselves.
