Jorge Pessoa

A São Paulo architect and urban planner, founder of the Pessoa Arquitetos firm, who moves between high-end residential design and social-interest urban planning — work that earned him the 2014 APCA Award.

Who he is

Jorge Pessoa is an architect and urban planner who graduated from Universidade Mackenzie (1992), specialised in Real Estate Business from FAAP/SECOVI (2000) and holds a master’s (2008) and doctorate (2024) in Urban and Regional Planning from the Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo da USP (FAUUSP). He was a founding partner of the firm BASE 3 Arquitetos (2007 to 2014) and has since run Pessoa Arquitetos, headquartered on Avenida Angélica, São Paulo. He is also a professor at Escola Panamericana de Arte e Design. His work combines two fronts that rarely coexist in the same résumé: residential and interior design, and social-scale urban design.

Language and signature

The firm organises its portfolio into residences, residential villas, interiors, schools and urban projects. In its residential output, the recurring mark is villas and small-house condominiums — floor plans with open spans that allow rooms to be reconfigured, strong integration between interior, private garden and natural light, and a contemporary, timeless reading of living.

Reference works

  • Reurbanisation of Favela do Sapé, São Paulo — winning project of the 2014 APCA Award (Architecture/Urbanity category).
  • Vila di Mantova — a residential condominium in Alto da Boa Vista, in partnership with Base Urbana.
  • Vila Modernne, Vila Sagres, Vila Nicolau Alayon, Casa A2 and Casa Kovacs — residential and villa projects by the firm.
