History

From R. Yazbek, with architecture by Itamar Berezin and Pablo Slemenson, decoration by João Armentano and landscaping by DW Santana, the L’Obelisque is a 2002 neoclassical building about 500 metres from Parque Ibirapuera. Only one apartment per floor and generous floor plans set the tone of exclusivity, like a high box seat overlooking the park’s greenery.

  • Concept: the low-density neoclassical building, with spacious floor plans facing Ibirapuera.
  • Curiosities: all four suites have a walk-in closet and terrace.

Architecture and aesthetics

The L’Obelisque is neoclassical without compromise: the façade adopts the repertoire São Paulo’s top tier cultivated at the turn of the 2000s and that has practically disappeared from recent launches, and the building’s name announces its height ambition before the reader even looks up. The gesture that defines it, however, lies at the edges of the floor plan: each of the four suites has its own walk-in closet and terrace, which takes the balcony out of its role as social space and returns it as a private extension of each bedroom — it’s a tower that breathes on every side, not just at the front. Interiors by João Armentano and landscaping by DW Santana.

Paraíso: the address

The address sits on the green side of the hinge Paraíso forms between Avenida Paulista and Parque Ibirapuera: from number 133 on Rua Curitiba it’s under four hundred metres to the park — the shortest distance among the street’s addresses on record —, and it’s the park, not the avenue, that organises the routine of those who live here. Paulista is a few minutes’ drive on the other side of the neighbourhood, and the metro arrives via Estação Paraíso, where two lines cross. What characterises this stretch is stability: residential blocks consolidated for decades, a weekly street market, early-childhood schools nearby and very little land available for new launches — the view a resident sees today tends to be the one they’ll still see in ten years. A note for readers puzzled by the postal code: the post office classifies much of Paraíso as Vila Mariana, and Rua Curitiba appears in records under both names. The house’s rule is that the postal code governs the address and market usage governs the neighbourhood name.
