Edifício Jatiuca

History

Edifício Jatiuca was delivered in 1985, on the upper block of Rua Peixoto Gomide, in Jardim Paulista, right next to the entrance of the Clube Atlético Paulistano — which grants it a permanent view over the club’s greenery and that of the Jardins. It is a single, low-rise tower, in the 1980s standard for the top tier: spacious apartments (300 m² in the original floor plan, reaching over 600 m² in combined units), with 3 suites and a generous number of parking spaces.

Architecture and aesthetics

A single low-rise tower, on a low-height-limit block — the height ceiling there is 28 metres —, in the design that São Paulo’s top tier practised in the 1980s: an explicit hierarchy of rooms, with a spacious living room, dining room and breakfast room as distinct spaces, three suites and five parking spaces per unit. It’s a floor plan that separates entertaining from everyday living, a division the market has traded, decade after decade, for the single integrated space. The architectural credit is not publicly documented and is therefore not attributed here.

Jardim Paulista: the address

Rua Peixoto Gomidei is one of the cross streets of the Jardinsi: it descends from around Avenida Paulistai cutting across the neighbourhood’s avenues, with far less commercial density than its neighbour Haddock Loboi. At number 2074 it is already on the upper block, right against the greenery of Club Athletico Paulistanoi — a leafy breathing space no plot in the vicinity can offer. Everyday shopping is handled at Jardim Pamplona Shoppingi, under five hundred metres away; the metro, at Estação Oscar Freirei, is over a kilometre further on. It is the part of Jardim Paulistai that trades transport convenience for quiet, and the equation works for those who get around by car.
