One Sixty

History

By Cyrelai, with architecture by Jonas Birgeri, landscaping by Benedito Abbudi and design by Yoo Studioi (Philippe Starcki), One Sixty was Brazil’s first Yooi project, in Vila Olímpiai, in the Faria Limai area. On a 5,650 m² plot, it delivers one of the most complete leisure offerings in the city.

Architecture and aesthetics

What sets the building apart is not the façade, it’s the section. Jonas Birgeri designed the units with double-height ceilings — over six metres, the height of two conventional storeys — and that changes the nature of the flat: the living room stops being a room and becomes a volume, and it is that volume that Yooi took on to work with. The same scale governs the arrival: thirty metres of hall length under a seven-metre ceiling, a public-space dimension applied to a residential lobby. The interiors are by Yooi, by Philippe Starcki; the landscaping is by Benedito Abbudi, who had the plot’s 5,650 m² to distribute the leisure facilities around a single tower.

Vila Olímpia: the address

Today’s Vila Olímpiai is the offspring of what existed before: a neighbourhood of warehouses and small industries that the city converted into a corporate axis from the 1990s onward. That origin explains a plot like this one — industrial-scale tracts wedged into a dense neighbourhood, the kind no residential subdivision would have left behind. In the surrounding blocks, Rua Quatá and its neighbours concentrate the dining and nightlife that give the neighbourhood its second shift, once the towers empty out; and a few minutes away are Shopping Vila Olímpiai, JK Iguatemii and Parque do Povoi, the open lawn that serves as a backyard for those living among skyscrapers.
