Maria João d'Orey

The landscape designer of the Cidade Jardim universe: gardens of European and tropical reference that sign some of the city's most exclusive addresses.

Who she is

Maria João d’Orey is a Portuguese-born, naturalised Brazilian landscape designer, with around four decades of career and family roots in the craft (daughter of a landscape designer). Her work combines European reference, the North American school and the macro-landscaping of Burle Marx, with a strong presence of palm trees, tree-lined avenues, ornamental grasses and flowering plants. She is a recurring name on the ultra-high-end axis of Cidade Jardim.

Concept

  • Philosophy: landscapes “to interact with”, uniting the tradition of European gardens with Brazilian tropical exuberance.
  • Typical planting: palm trees, tree-lined avenues, ornamental grasses and flowers, in large-scale compositions.
