History

By JHSFi, Parque Cidade Jardim is São Paulo’s first mixed-use development, with architecture by Pablo Slemensoni and landscaping by Maria João d’Orey. On a large plot beside the Marginal Pinheirosi, the complex sails like a private harbour: it brings together nine residential buildings, Shopping Cidade Jardimi, the Cidade Jardimi Corporate Center, a hotel and a club. It is one of the most prestigious addresses in the city.

• Concept: the city within the city, with living, shopping, working and staying all in one ultra-high-end complex.
• Curiosities: the residential towers are named after plants (Begônias, Ipês, Magnólias, Limantos, Resedás, Zíneas, Tuias), with floor areas that grow according to the tower.

Architecture and aesthetics

The aesthetic here is a consequence of scale: the design exists so that a complex of this size doesn’t weigh on those who live in it. Hence the independent access points and car parks per tower and, above all, the negotiation with the avenue — all servicing descends to a basement level with direct access from the Marginal Pinheirosi, and acoustic window frames silence what remains, so that the flat sits on the edge of an expressway and turns its back on it. Credit is shared across two layers: the registry attributes the project to Escritório Técnico Julio Neves, while current authorship of the complex is credited to Pablo Slemensoni — in a complex built in stages, the two are not mutually exclusive. Landscaping is by Maria João d’Orey, who is behind much of the greenery along this corridor with her grammar of palm trees, avenues and flowering plants.

Cidade Jardim: the address

The neighbourhood’s name designates two different things, and this address is the more recent of the two. Behind the ridge lies horizontal Cidade Jardimi, of large plots, set-back houses and streets named after flowers, which came first; here, on the edge of the Marginal Pinheirosi, is the vertical version, which this very complex created by bringing the grand maisons of Shopping Cidade Jardimi to the south side of the city. Those living at this address have designer brands, offices, a hotel and a club within the perimeter, Parque Bruno Covasi — the Pinheiros riverside — less than two hundred metres away, and Estação Berrinii on Line 9–Emerald less than seven hundred metres away. And, a bridge away, Jardim Europai, the Sociedade Hípica Paulistai and Faria Limai: the other side of the river, which this address faces head-on.
