The Stage

History

From Helbori with Yazbeki and Toledo Ferrarii, The Stage anchors a 2012 high-end building in Moemai (Moema Pássaros), a stone’s throw from Parque Ibirapuerai. It offers four-bedroom floor plans in a prestigious residential address, on the same Rua Canário as The Placei.

Architecture and aesthetics

The building is a single tower on a 1,083 m² lot with thirty-six metres of frontage — a house-sized plot, not a club-condominium one — and it’s from that constraint that the design emerges: twenty floors for twenty-one units, essentially one apartment per floor, with two lifts and four-bedroom floor plans ranging from 226 to 359 m², up to a 559 m² penthouse. Going vertical was the way to fit a large floor area onto a small lot, and the result is the narrow, tall volume that characterises the building. The architectural project’s authorship is not publicly documented and is therefore not attributed here; the same applies to the interior design and landscaping projects.

Moema: the address

Number 160 shows Rua Canário at its original size: a lot with thirty-six metres of frontage, on the same street where a neighbour has a hundred and seventy-five. It’s the Canário summed up in two frontages — the Moema of the Pássaros was never made of uniform blocks, and what you see here is the alternation between the house-sized lot that became a tower and the large lot that became a complex. The rules have changed since then: the zoning currently in force in this stretch is mixed-use, with a height limit set at twenty-eight metres, a height that wouldn’t rebuild this building today. The rest is the quiet Moemai of always — Parque Ibirapuerai three hundred metres away, schools less than four hundred, two street markets within a five-hundred-metre radius, Estação Moemai on Line 5 – Lilac and Shopping Ibirapuerai a little over six hundred metres away. A street with no commerce, the park on one side and the transit axis on the other, and nothing but residences in between.
