History

Architecture and aesthetics

Classical in expression, signed by Adolpho Lindenbergi — architect and builder of the same house, which here means design and construction under a single decision. The gesture that defines the building is the plot: 3,807 m² with three frontages for a single tower with one apartment per floor, a layout that reduces the boundary to a single face and gives the floor plan windows in several orientations. And the floor plan is that of a house raised off the ground — a living room with multiple areas, library, office, breakfast room, home theatre, wine cellar, terrace and full staff quarters, with the master suite unfolded into his-and-hers closets and bathrooms. It is the repertoire of the Jardim Europai residence transposed to the vertical: the 1978 answer to a neighbourhood that, until then, lived on the ground. The interior design and landscaping credits are not publicly documented and, for that reason, are not attributed here.

Jardim Europa: the address

Two names for the same address

The plot sits on the border between Jardim Europa and Jardim Paulistano, and both names are legitimate. The postcode records Jardim Paulistano; the high-end market treats the address as Jardim Europa. This entry adopts the name in common use and keeps the other for those searching by it.

Rua Jean Sibelius is the northern vertex of the small vertical enclave of Jardim Europai — the streets named after composers that formed at the southern tip of the neighbourhood, over the old Pinheiros floodplain.
